Okay, okay, I know it's been a bit since I
last updated. Hey, I've been busy (part of which my
girlfriend swears she's to blame for...and no, she's not
sorry about it). ^_^;;;
Fame and Misfortune
A few things have happened to me since the last time I
updated: I somehow went and got famous. Okay, no I'm not
going to be on the cover of People (or even Animerica)
just yet, and I doubt Entertainment Tonight is going to
be beating at my door anytime soon. However, consider the
following:
 | I was conversing with my girlfriend online one
night, when she told me, "BTW, you're famous." When I
asked what that meant, she clarified: she was discussing a
topic with someone she knew and mentioned me in a reference to
something. When the person asked if the reference was
actually to me, she mentioned my works. This sent
the other person into a glorious fit of "You actually know
the guy?" Turns out said person was a fan of White
Butterfly and CBW. While I didn't think much
of it, my dearest SO assured me her friend was not a fanfic
reader (nor is she, for that matter). Apparently
he'd come across my material somehow and loved it. She
has since done this several times since. |
 | Another friend of mine made the mistake of
name-dropping me at a recent fancon. When they asked if
she really knew me, she said, yes, for years. As a
result, she was inundated with requests for autographs ("in
the hundreds", she insists). |
 | A Brazilian site,
Mitsukai Editoras, has contacted me about pubbing my works
in Portuguese. I think. I'm still working on this
one. ^_^;;; |
 | Work has begun on a major project (more on
that later). |
 | I'm working on setting up a blog (so people
can listen to me blather on a more regular basis). |
But those are the positive ones, folks. As you can
guess, life isn't always rosy for "famous" people, as evidenced
by the following:
 | In early February, on
Fanfiction.net, an author by the name of Archer McKnight
published Chapter Two of his story, Changing Destinies.
The work bore a strikingly disturbing resemblance to Parts One
and Two of my own fic, The Bond (in fact, the name of
his chapter was "The Bonding"). He was warned about this
by several readers and instead of correcting the situation, he
merely removed his email address for comments. When more
weeks went by and nothing was said, finally a supportive
reader brought it to my attention the following month. I
in turn brought it to the attention of several anti-plagiarism
groups who offered assistance. Between the two
organizations, McKnight's account with FFnet was removed the
following day. My thanks to all who helped on this. |
"Fame and fortune" are clearly relative terms right now, but
hopefully soon they will parlay into more of a mainstream
meaning for me. More on that later.
Ch-ch-ch-changes....
Aside from the annual website change, there have
been a few other renovations around here. Some are good,
some are bad, some are frankly necessary.
 |
Due to events that happened a few months
ago, my original project, Bossa for Sakurajima, has been
cancelled. The reason for that was that the eponymous jazz
bar in Kagoshima has burnt down in a fire, killing three people.
One of them was a friend of mine, my contact for info on that
area. Eriko and I weren't intimate, but she was a longtime
fan of my works (as well as the inspiration for the character
Breeze). While I don't feel that continuing BFS
would be right, Breeze will appear in another of my works, a
memorial for my friend that I feel must be done.

The Artwork section here at Mitsukai! has been
removed. It's a needless redundancy of my other sites (Tokyo
Teleport and my own niche at
Renderosity), and no purpose to it.

Two series of mine are laid to rest: Tales
of Shampoo and Goddess?!?!? Oh My...., as well as one
potential one (La Princesa Antigua). There are
different reasons for this, but the main ones are that they're
just not working out for me, whether it's lack of readership, loss of interest, a
feeling I can't do much more with it or
outright apathy brought on by overexposure of the original
source material. Note that I have not mentioned the
state of others; those are still in my sphere of interest
(especially A Duet of Pigtails, The Bond and
Caught Between Worlds) and it is likely I'll continue the
others not listed here as well. I will admit that if there's enough desire, I may turn
these works over to someone else; I've already inherited ETB
and Duet, and spun off Devil Hunter Yohko: The Midnight
Chronicles years ago, so anything's possible.

Expect to see more original works. Yes, I
know most of you don't come here for that, but I promise it'll
be worth your time. Trust me on this one. And with
that, I guess I should mention...
|
Megami Studios!
As my need to write more original works and work
more towards a professional bent comes to mind, it's time to
create an outlet for that. So, over the next few weeks,
you'll be seeing stuff from me over at Megami
Studios (which is nowhere near ready yet), including both original stories not seen here and
also online manga and other goodies as well. Head on over
there and you just might be amazed.
Well, you DID mention
you did SOMETHING, right?
Picky. Well, since you insist on
knowing....
